Kilkenny County Council Arts Office – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – YOUTH ARTS
Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, Ossory Youth & the Drum Youth Centre invite applications from suitably qualified visual artists to undertake an Artist in Residence position in these two city-based youth centres in Kilkenny from mid-September to mid-November 2023
RESIDENCY AIMS & OBJECTIVES
- To co -create work with young people ensuring that their voices influence the decision-making processes throughout the residency.
- To create a safe, supportive space for young people to explore and express their creativity.
- To encourage a process-led approach amongst young people.
- To expose young people to different materials & ways of making and creating art.
- To enhance existing learning, encouraging them to experiment & work innovatively.
- To deepen and enrich the young people’s experiences of the arts by ensuring that all activities are challenging, fun and rewarding.
- To enhance diversity and foster greater participation in the visual arts.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Essential Requirements
- Applicants must be a practising artist with an interest in developing their practice of working with young people.
- Evidence of confidence with materials and must possess a broad suite of knowledge & skills.
- Evidence of excellent organisation and planning skills.
- Evidence of their ability to engage and communicate with young people.
- Adaptable and flexible to the needs of the young people.
- A good understanding of equal opportunities.
- Must be accepting, unbiased & approachable. Evidence of same in application.
- Ability to work flexibly both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and manage relationships with relevant personnel.
- Ability to evaluate and document work in progress.
- Ability to produce final evaluation reports including documentation.
- Knowledge and understanding of the benefit of working creatively.
- Highly motivated and ability to meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience of working with young people
- Clear understanding of social inclusion
- Knowledge and experience of social media platforms
- Knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluating programmes
- Driving licence & own transport
Essential Other
- Available for daytime, evening and weekend work

Visual Artist in Residence – Youth

Overall period | Running for 8 weeks from September – November 2023
Sessions will be late afternoon & mid-week
NB- Half- term falls the week of Oct 30th-Nov 3rd and the artist must be available to offer additional sessions this week should the group request it. Any additional sessions during this time will be reflected in the artists fee.

Artist fee
|
Artist fee: €3,150 including prep & admin hours.
A modest travel stipend is available to artists living a considerable distance from Kilkenny. All materials will be paid for by Kilkenny County Council Arts Office. A budget breakdown will be provided to the successful candidate.

This provision for services will run over a 3-month period
Insurance and Tax: The successful applicant will be responsible for all taxes which arise from any payment by Kilkenny County Council of the agreed fee including and without prejudice the generality of this provision, all income tax and VAT
Candidates must be available for interview the week of August 14th
