April 25th– Liz McMahon Creativity in the Classroom

Join us for a workshop lead by artist Liz McMahon as she shares her approach to working with children in schools. Liz has been working with children through creative programmes for the past 35 years. Many of these are long-term programmes such as Creativity in the Classroom which she has been involved in since its inception in 1997. Creativity in the Classroom is a collaboration between 5 inner city Dublin schools and artists to provide quality arts education within the context of social and emotional growth and creative expression. Through a combination of presentation, discussions and hands-on activities Liz will share with participants her experiences  and the processes she uses when engaging with children and teachers in a classroom setting

 May 30th-Kate Wilson Transdisciplinary Approaches in Collaborative Practice

Combining a short slide presentation with a participatory workshop, artistic director of Undercurrent, Kate Wilson, leads this unique CPD in collaborative and transdisciplinary practice. With more than twenty-five years’ experience with school and community arts practice, including national design for Teacher Artist Partnership, and company work with Undercurrent, Kate will share some of her ideas and inspirations as well as inviting discussion, explorations and reflections in a relaxed inclusive environment. This is an opportunity to explore and share, and to make new connections in an open and creative context.

September 26th -Orla Kelly Creativity in Early Years

Órla Kelly is a visual artist, creative educationalist and the director of Early Childhood Creativity, an organisation that aims to stimulate creative thinking and activity in early years children and their guardians. A focus of her practice is supporting artists and educationalists to develop specific and creative ways of working with children in their early years. Orla will share her experience and approach to working with early year groups while also bringing participants through a variety of activities and simple exercises that will help participants to engage with younger children. She will also touch on the benefits of artist collaboration.

Ticket Price: subsided rate at €7 per workshop, or all three for €15.

About Liz McMahon

Liz McMahon studied Fine Art in Limerick College of Art and Design. She has been working with children through creative programmes for the past 35 years. Many of these are long-term programmes such as Creativity in the Classroom, which has been in Dublin inner south city primary schools for the past 27 years. Engaging children in their creativity can be a game changer for many as it stimulates imagination, problem-solving skills, and emotional expression.

About Kate Wilson

Kate Wilson’s practice is based in the northwest of Ireland with a company residency at The Dock Arts Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon. She is a transdisciplinary artist with a background in both dance and visual art. In 2016 she founded Undercurrent, a company that explores issues of mobility and inclusiveness in the arts, creating innovative performance for gallery and theatre with movement practitioners from diverse backgrounds, including wheelchair users, parkour performers and aerialists. Projects include, Winter Ground (performed in double bill with IMDT), Magnetise, shortlisted for LAMA awards, Unearth which toured nationally in 2022 and Landing Places 2023. In 2020 Kate began Curves of Time, an ongoing gallery based research exploring embodied approaches to image and movement creation. Company outreach includes Moving Together a biannual integrated event at the Dock Arts Centre with individualised access support for participants with diverse needs. A featured artist on national Social Practice Toolkit and part of TAP (Teacher Artist Partnership) national design team, work in community, international collaborations and contributions to seminars/training are an integral part of her practice.
