Tea Houses

The Tea House programme was created to foster a vibrant new stream of artistic activity in Kilkenny, enhancing cultural experiences for both local and national artists and audiences. Designed as an important platform for contemporary art, the Tea Houses actively engage with existing creative communities and networks across the city and county. Through collaboration with the Kilkenny Arts Office, the programme aligns with the strategic vision of Kilkenny County Council, supporting a dynamic, artist-led environment. To date, it has delivered a diverse and impactful range of activities, including exhibitions, residencies, artist development initiatives, and community projects.

A strong emphasis is placed on artist support through curatorial guidance, commissioned work, artist networking and cross-disciplinary collaboration

Artist development is central, with tailored residencies, mentoring, and informal engagement opportunities. Public engagement is expanded through exhibitions and workshops, and talks. Overall, the Tea Houses play a vital role in strengthening Kilkenny’s arts infrastructure, nurturing creativity, collaboration, and community connection.
