A wonderful afternoon today celebrating the launch A wonderful afternoon today celebrating the launch of Kilkenny's 2026 Broadsheet.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, especially of course to the fifteen poets whose contributions fill this year's edition with beauty, insight and inspiration.

Special thanks to Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Kilkenny Arts Festival Poet-in-Residence, for launching the Broadsheet, and to Jane Robinson for her outstanding work as editor.

Broadsheets will be available in all Kilkenny Library branches from next week.

Kilkenny County Council Public Arts Commissions - Kilkenny County Council Public Arts Commissions - ‘All to Play For’ at the Watergate Theatre Monday 10th August, 12noon – 2pm. Free entry.

The film is approximately 10 minutes long and will play on a loop between these times.
All to Play For is a dance film that celebrates former hurling and camogie stars. Developed and shot on location in Kilkenny with All-Ireland medal winners Anne Dalton, Ann Downey, Liam Fennelly and Tommy Malone.

More than a sports story, it lifts the viewer into something felt rather than simply seen. The film uses dance to embody connection, community, drive and determination, showing that, even after the whistle blows, it’s still all to play for.

Commissioned and funded by Kilkenny County Council’s Public Arts Programme 2024-2027, funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Kilkenny County Council’s vision for public arts is to ensure that people who live in and visit Kilkenny experience captivating, challenging and culturally diverse high-quality public art projects.

CHOSEN FAMILIES Ki McBride | Shane Gallagher Cho CHOSEN FAMILIES

Ki McBride | Shane Gallagher

Chosen Families is a collaborative portrait exhibition exploring the relationships we create beyond traditional ideas of family with artist Ki McBride and curated by Shane Gallagher.

Rooted in the experiences of LGBTQ+ participants, the project celebrates the friendships, solidarity and care that help us not only to find support, but to discover, express and become our most authentic selves.

Bringing together photography, video, sound, personal objects and participants' own contributions, the exhibition presents seven co-created portraits. Rather than simply photographing people, each work emerged through a process of collaboration, with every participant helping to shape how they, their relationships, and their stories would be represented. Each portrait carries the traces and memories of that shared experience.

While portraiture has often been used to commemorate power, status or biological family, Chosen Families turns its attention to the people we choose—and who choose us in return. It honours friendship, community and care as relationships equally worthy of being seen, remembered and celebrated.

As part of Kilkenny Pride, the exhibition will also host a Chosen Families Portrait Event on Saturday 25 July from 4.00 pm at the Tea Houses. Pride attendees are warmly invited to drop in with their friends, partners or chosen family to have a portrait made together. Each group will receive a complimentary digital copy of their photograph, extending the project beyond the gallery and celebrating the connections that continue to strengthen our communities.

Schools out and we’re taking a moment to look back Schools out and we’re taking a moment to look back at the incredible creativity and passion of the young people who took part in the Art of Change Schools Programme.
This programme encourages students to engage with environmental and climate issues through the arts. Working with an artist over a series of workshops the groups explored different sustainable art techniques and processes which invited them to reflect on our impact on the environment.
A huge thank you to all the schools and students who participated. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and thoughtful engagement brought the programme to life.

Art of Change forms part of Kilkenny County Council Arts Office Climate Action initiative.

A gentle evening of stitching, creativity and conn A gentle evening of stitching, creativity and connection at Sewing Seeds this evening 🌿🧵

Drawing on the techniques and skills developed throughout previous Sewing Seeds sessions, participants spent the evening creating textile pictures through embroidery, layering, and textile collage. Using reclaimed fabrics, each person explored colour, texture, and composition to create a unique piece of work.

The workshop provided an opportunity to revisit and build upon skills learned across the programme, including hand sewing, embroidery, repair, and creative textile reuse.

Working slowly and mindfully, participants transformed textile remnants into art - thank you to everyone who joined us today.

Sewing Seeds continues to grow 🌱 As part of Kilke Sewing Seeds continues to grow 🌱

As part of Kilkenny Arts Office’s Community Arts and Climate Action programme, Sewing Seeds brings together creativity, sustainability, and community connection through making and reflection.

This summer season, participants are exploring textile reuse and have created beautiful seed pouches using linen repurposed from old trousers sourced in a local charity shop.

Sewing Seeds builds on the success of our Waste Not Want Not programme and earlier climate-action community projects including Three Bags Full, Born to Knit and Making Space, continuing a long tradition of creative reuse, skill-sharing, and environmental awareness through the arts.

Across Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, the programme explores circular design, textile waste streams, care and repair, and sustainable making practices through artist-led workshops, Generate Days, and collaborations with local eco-groups.

Together, participants are learning new skills, rethinking consumption, and discovering how creativity can inspire positive environmental action and stronger community connections.
