Poetry Broadsheet

The Kilkenny Poetry Broadsheet is an annual publication by Kilkenny County Council Arts Office that celebrates and supports local poetic talent. Through an open call, the Broadsheet invites submissions from poets who are either based in Kilkenny or originally from the county, providing an inclusive platform for both emerging and established voices. Each year, a distinguished Irish poet is invited to act as editor, bringing their expertise and perspective to the selection of work. Previous editors include Enda Wyley, James Harpur, Afric McGlinchey, Elaine Feeney, Jessica Traynor and Colm Keegan, reflecting the high calibre and national significance of the publication.

The Broadsheet aims to nurture creativity and encourage participation by offering writers an opportunity to have their work published, regardless of prior experience. It is particularly valued as a first stepping-stone for new poets, while also showcasing the continued excellence of more experienced practitioners. Beautifully illustrated by a professional illustrator each year, the Poetry Broadsheet is both a literary and visual celebration of Kilkenny’s creative community. It plays an important role in promoting poetry locally and strengthening connections between writers and audiences.
