Kilkenny County Council Arts Office is delighted to be running a pilot Critical Response Process session for Kilkenny writers this March. Depending on the success of this first iteration we will run further CRP sessions into the future.
Date: Thursday 2nd March 2023
Time: 1.30pm – 5pm
Location: Rothe House, Kilkenny
The aim of this programme is to help to:
- Build capacity in our writing community
- Encourage collaborative supportive activity
- Empower local writers to support each other’s development & progression
- Prepare writers at all levels to deliver work to a wider public audience
- Strengthen the local writing community and develop a mutually supportive community of writers across the county
The Critical Response Process
The Critical Response Process was devised by choreographer Liz Lerman in 1990, Critical Response Process® (CRP) is an internationally recognized method for giving and getting feedback on creative works in progress. Through the supportive structure of its four core steps, Critical Response Process combines the power of questions with the focus and challenge of informed dialogue. The Process offers writers an active role in the critique of their own work. It gives writers a way to rehearse the connections they seek when art meets its audience or a product meets its purpose.
The session will be facilitated by Alice Bennett. Alice is a writer, researcher, and experienced facilitator. Her poetry has been featured in the Kilkenny Poetry Broadsheet and broadcast on Poetry Phone, Kilkenny Arts Office. She was shortlisted for the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry prize 2022. Alice is completing her doctoral dissertation in Arts Liberation Education with Maynooth Adult and Community Education Department. She is passionate about encouraging and facilitating artists to gain knowledge, confidence, and authenticity in their own writing.
