Underpinned by the Kilkenny Culture and Creativity Strategy 2023-2027, the Creative Ireland Programme continued to support and expand participation in cultural and creative activities throughout County Kilkenny during 2023. Through strong collaboration between the Arts Office, Biodiversity Office, Heritage Office, Libraries, Healthy Kilkenny, Climate Action, KCETB, community organisations and key stakeholders working with marginalised groups, 24 Creative Ireland projects and 12 Cruinniú na nÓg initiatives were delivered across the county. These programmes engaged over 31,000 participants, employed 133 artists and creative practitioners, and supported a diverse range of activities spanning literature, music, visual arts, theatre, biodiversity, STEM, crafts and heritage. Highlights included the seventh annual Bookville Festival, the Leave the Long Grass Grow biodiversity project, a biodiversity-themed mural at Dunmore Countryside Park, and a wide programme of Cruinniú na nÓg workshops, performances and masterclasses for young people. In August, Creative Ireland Kilkenny welcomed the appointment of Creative Communities Engagement Officer, Majella Keating, strengthening community engagement and supporting the continued development of inclusive and innovative creative programmes across the county.
