ArtEd is a Primary School Residency programme designed to inspire and nurture the creative potential of children through hands-on projects across various art forms.

This initiative, a collaboration between the Kilkenny Arts Office and Kilkenny Education Centre, also provides educators with opportunities to explore innovative teaching strategies and skills with the support of artists. Open to all TAP-trained artists and schools in Kilkenny, ArtEd aims to foster a dynamic and supportive environment where both students and teachers can engage deeply with the arts

The initiative aims to provide primary school children in Kilkenny with high-quality, hands-on arts educational opportunities with local artists, while offering classroom-based CPD opportunities for teachers to learn transferable skills. It seeks to create positive, process-led experiences across various art forms for both children and teachers, enabling artists to share their practice in a modern school environment. Additionally, it provides employment and ongoing paid work opportunities for artists, particularly those who have completed the TAP summer programme, and helps them develop skills in teaching and facilitating in formal education settings. The programme fosters collaboration between artists, schools, and children, enriching the artists’ own practice where relevant. It also aims to engage teaching staff with practicing artists to create and deliver bespoke, creative initiatives aligned with the Primary Curriculum, and to develop teachers’ skills and confidence in facilitating arts experiences and championing the arts in school settings. Ultimately, it equips teachers and artists with the skills needed to encourage the development of problem-solving, lateral thinking, complex analysis, critical thinking, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.
