Culture Night Kilkenny 2026 was an outstanding success, bringing thousands of people together to celebrate the creativity, talent and cultural richness that exists across our city and county. The programme through collaborative efforts of, Kilkenny County Council, artists, venues, cultural organisations and volunteers who joined forces to deliver an ambitious programme of free events that showcased the very best of Kilkenny’s arts, heritage and creative spirit.

With more than 20 events taking place throughout Kilkenny City and County and engaging over 2,000 participants and audience members, this year’s programme demonstrated the extraordinary appetite for cultural participation and community celebration. From visual arts and literature to theatre, music, dance, heritage and hands-on workshops, Culture Night offered something for everyone, regardless of age, background or experience.

A particular highlight was Culture for All on The Parade, which brought together live music, family-friendly activities and a vibrant intercultural collaboration between Maracatu Ireland and the Global Dance Club, creating a joyful atmosphere in the heart of the city. Across the county, audiences enjoyed guided public art walks, storytelling events, theatre performances, exhibitions, creative workshops and opportunities to discover Kilkenny’s rich history and heritage in new and engaging ways.

The city’s evening programme was further enhanced through the ongoing partnership between Kilkenny Arts Office and the Kilkenny City Night-Time Economy Office, supporting an exciting range of Culture Night Late events. From jazz and swing dancing to contemporary electronic music, artist talks and the Watergate Urban Block Party, the city remained alive with creativity long into the evening.

One of the most significant moments of the night came when Culture Night Live was broadcast on RTÉ from the iconic St. Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower. Produced by IRIS Productions and supported by the Arts Council, the national broadcast placed Kilkenny firmly in the national spotlight, showcasing the county’s cultural heritage and artistic excellence through performances from Clada, Jessica Doolan, Jamie Duffy, Niamh O’Sullivan, Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill. The live broadcast connected Kilkenny audiences with celebrations taking place across Ireland and highlighted the county’s important role within the national cultural landscape.

Culture Night 2026 also demonstrated a strong commitment to accessibility, inclusion and participation. Throughout the programme, wheelchair-accessible venues, intercultural performances, family-focused activities and opportunities for audience participation ensured that culture was accessible to as many people as possible. The events welcomed seasoned arts audiences alongside first-time attendees, helping to foster meaningful community connections and encouraging ongoing engagement with culture throughout the year.

Importantly, the programme supported the work of more than 115 artists, performers, facilitators and creative practitioners, providing valuable opportunities for artistic expression while contributing to Kilkenny’s vibrant creative ecology. The success of Culture Night once again highlighted the strength of collaboration between artists, community organisations, cultural venues, volunteers and local authority partners.

As we reflect on another memorable Culture Night, we would like to thank everyone who took part, attended events, hosted activities or contributed behind the scenes. The enthusiasm, creativity and generosity shown across the county made Culture Night Kilkenny 2026 a truly special celebration of culture, community and connection.

We look forward to building on this success and welcoming even more people to discover, experience and celebrate culture in Kilkenny in the years ahead.
