Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, Ossory Youth & the Drum Youth Centre invite applications from suitably qualified visual artists to undertake a residency in these two city-based youth centres in Kilkenny from mid-September to mid-November 2022

 

RESIDENCY AIMS & OBJECTIVES

  • To create a safe space for young people to explore their creativity
  • To diversify and increase participation in the visual arts
  • To enhance existing learning, that they have received both in school and outside of the school setting
  • To encourage young people to focus on the process of making and to be less focussed on outcomes
  • To expose young people to different materials & ways of making and creating art
  • To encourage them to experiment & work innovatively
  • To deepen and enrich the young people’s experiences of the arts by ensuring that all activities are rich, fun, challenging and rewarding
  • To ensure that the young people’s voices clearly feature in the decision-making processes throughout the residency.

 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential Requirements

  1. Applicants must be a practising artist
  2. Evidence of confidence with materials and must possess a broad suite of knowledge & skills
  3. Evidence of excellent organisation and planning skills
  4. Evidence of their ability to engage and communicate with young people
  5. Evidence of their ability to facilitate groups of young people
  6. A good understanding of equal opportunities
  7. Must be accepting, unbiased & approachable. Evidence of same in application
  8. Ability to work flexibly both independently and as part of a team
  9. Ability to build and manage relationships with relevant personnel
  10. Ability to evaluate and document work in progress
  11. Ability to produce final evaluation reports including documentation
  12. Knowledge and understanding of the benefit of working creatively
  13. Highly motivated and ability to meet deadlines

Visual Artist in Residence – Youth

 

Overall period  September – November 2022

 

Sessions will be late afternoon & mid-week

 

NB half term falls the week of October 31st and the artists must be available to offer a longer session this week. This is reflected in the artists fee.

 

Start date Week of September 19th

 

End date Week of November 14th

Four hours weekly

Two hours at Ossory Youth & two hours at the Drum

Artist fee

 

Curators fee incl. €2,800 including prep hours

 

There is a separate budget for materials. Breakdown will be provided to the successful candidate

 

   

Desirable

  1. Experience of working with young people
  2. Clear understanding of social inclusion
  3. Knowledge and experience of social media platforms
  4. Knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluating programmes
  5. Driving licence & own transport

 

Essential Other

  • Available for daytime, evening and weekend work

 This provision for services will run over a 3-month period

Insurance and Tax: The successful applicant will be responsible for all taxes which arise from any payment by Kilkenny County Council of the agreed fee including and without prejudice the generality of this provision, all income tax and VAT

Candidates may be called for interview based on shortlisting mid-August
